Planting Cauliflower

We had a few days with warm weather so I decided to plant the Cauliflower I bought a week earlier form the Brooklyn market. It was probably way too early for outdoor planting (April) but I figured I would give it a go. Worst case scenario I would need to figure out how to cover it. Since its been already over a week since I bough these it is hard to say if these seedling would survive much longer in their current container anyway.

I planted the Cauliflower in one of my smaller raised beds. The bed has full sun until the afternoon. We made the bed last year and grew some peppers. This year we mixed in some compost but the soil is still mostly clay. It cracks when it gets dry. I am not sure how well the plants will do in this soil.

I grew 3 varieties of cauliflower: tasty purple, tasty orange and white. This will be my first time planting these. I am a big fan of white cauliflower. You can eat it raw or grilled with some butter. You can also freeze it for use in the winter months. I can just imagine how much better it will taste straight from the garden 🙂
